For instance, choosing a baby duck for the spirit animal card because of her soft side and childlike joy while performing. Or, like for the sound card, I chose the song You Don’t Own Me by Lesley Gore, because Taylor refuses to have her career controlled by others.
I then made a mood board for each card, finding the right imagery to help give me the mood and ideas for what I wanted each card to look like.
For the color palette, I chose colors that I thought best represented some of her characteristics (i.e., blue eyes, her favorite color, golden-yellow hair, and red lips).
When it came to choosing a font, I actually got stuck for a bit. I tried a handful of different frilly-looking fonts until I landed on a more elegant-looking one for the main text, with a simple pairing font for smaller elements.
After getting stuck on multiple parts throughout the design process during this project, I finally figured out my system, and the pieces started falling into place. This was due to all the ideation I did throughout my process and trying all my ideas, even if they didn’t end up working.
